Australasia
- To ensure that all dataset descriptions are of a consistent type,
the Document Type Definition (DTD) defines the SGML metadata
elements and their order and structure.
- The ANZMETA DTD defines the rules for geospatial dataset
descriptions in Australia and New Zealand.
- Changes from version 1.1 to 1.2 include: - Facilitate extension,
use XML character entities, added "identifier" attribute
to "keyword", added thesauri for place-keyword
- Controlled
vocabularies (authority lists) are defined for the <keyword>
element - with links to the official lists (Geographic Extent Names
GEN, jurisdiction, progress, ANZLIC search words, etc.)

- The Metadata Working Group of the Australia New Zealand Land
Information Council (ANZLIC)
has undertaken a project to identify and evaluate applications of
database and internet technology that can support a distributed
directory system.
- In July 1997 ANZLIC invited technology providers, researchers or
consultants to demonstrate the capability of available technology
that can support its efforts to establish a distributed ASDD.
- Proposals are being assessed during December.
